EQUESTRIAN SPECIALTY ARTS

Equestrian specialty arts are the founding disciplines of circus entertainment. Clinics will offer students a chance to try various riding disciplines found in circuses and stunt work.

Specialty disciplines offered:

Roman Riding is the art of standing on two horses at once. With one foot on each horse, riders will be able to sample the true feeling of “horsepower”.

Vaulting/Bareback riding is a

traditional circus discipline performed in the ring. Often associated with the image of a ballerina on a horse, bareback or rosinback riding is an art form of dance/yoga on horseback.

Trick/Cossack Riding is a strong and fast military art originating in areas of modern-day Russia. Tricks include vaulting on, dragging, and various movements on or under a galloping horse. Modern versions are often seen in rodeos or circuses.

Liberty/Trick Training is an on the ground art involving soft and gentle communication with the horse at liberty, or free of restraint. Using body language, one will learn to synchronize movements with the animal to create beautiful dances between man and beast.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who can attend?

A: All ages are welcome at clinics. Small children of children 10 and under are encouraged to sign up for private or semi-private slots rather than group format. Must be under weight limit to participate and auditors are welcome.

Q: Do you need any previous experience?

A: No previous horse or acrobatic experience required! There will always be certain tricks and paces for each student to learn and experience.

Q: Do I need my own horse?

A: No. Veronica travels to clinics and camps with her own experienced trick horses and equipment.

Q: What do I wear or what should I bring?

A: Please wear tight athletic clothing (breeches/tights/leggings) and flat gym shoes or wrestling shoes. Baggy clothing and chunky riding boots are prohibited. Water bottles are encouraged. Please dress for the weather.

Q: Do I need a helmet?

A: Minors are required to wear helmets. Helmets are optional for adults and experienced stunt riders. Why is that? Trick riding and Equestrian Vaulting are more dangerous with helmets than without for certain tricks. We will be standing, hanging, and moving around while a helmet may hinder movement and could also get caught on horns or straps. One’s best bet would be to bring and wear a helmet unless instructed otherwise.

Q: Is Horsemanship Unlocked insured?

A: Absolutely! All riders must also sign a waiver prior to participating in any event.
